The Behaviour Code emanates from our Behaviour Policy, which highlights the virtues of Respect, Honesty, Helpfulness, Kindness and Obedience.
Good, appropriate behaviour of boys at Durston House is paramount in creating a positive, secure environment and maintaining the smooth, day-to-day life of the school. By acknowledging that each person has the right to feel happy, safe and satisfied whilst at school, the boys develop the qualities that build character: honesty, courtesy, respect for self, consideration for others, kindness and self-discipline.
Boys are expected to think of others before themselves and to consider any impact on others their actions may have. Great emphasis is placed on empathising with the feelings of other boys and the adults in school; it is reinforced when boys gather for Assembly, in Form or House time, in PSHME discussion, and in workshops geared to personal development. Aggression, in any form, is discouraged vehemently and dealt with speedily. Taking responsibility for one’s behaviour not only builds and develops character, but strengthens it in times of both success and adversity.
