Visiting the School

Come and See Us

The best way to learn about Durston House is to visit us. It is essential to witness an authentic day, when boys and staff are engaged in the usual lessons and break times. We encourage Prospective Parents to make the most of a visit by coming to our Open Days, which are held once a term.

Open Days

Our Open Days are when the school welcomes visitors to Durston House, to introduce them to the type of school we are and to show them something of how the boys learn. We believe it is important that Prospective Parents learn first-hand how the school operates and see our happy, motivated boys in action.

All guests are escorted around the school by two of our Year 8 boys. Each tour consists of a visit to Pre-Prep, Junior School, Middle and Upper Schools, as well as Castlebar Playing Fields. However, the tours are tailored to suit the interests of the prospective parents. Here at Durston, boys and staff are accustomed to visitors coming into the classroom, and are more than happy to talk through what they are doing and show what they have produced.

As well as the tour, we offer a Saturday Introductory Information Morning at Castlebar Playing Fields where you can chat with staff, current parents and see some examples of work and activities. The whole family is welcome to attend and there will be sporting and play opportunities for children to engage in. The Headmaster gives a short address, giving an insight into the depth and breadth of the Durston education.

Other Visits

For parents who cannot attend an Open Day, individual visits can be arranged during term time. These take place between 8.30am-11.00am. Prospective Parents are shown around the school by two of our Prefects.
