We are delighted that you are considering Durston House for your son. The school was established in 1886 and has been providing an outstanding education in an inclusive, warm and dynamic environment ever since. Boys typically join us in Reception aged 4 and stay until they are 12 or 13. We are incredibly proud of our pupils and many go on to the top Independent schools in London and surrounding area. In the Times Parent Power List 2021, Durston House is ranked at 18th in England for KS2 Results. If you analyse the rankings, this makes us the top boys only school in England.

We encourage all prospective parents to visit us on an Open Morning or to book an individual tour, to gain a flavour of what it is we do and to see first-hand the happy, motivated boys as they go about their learning. Sadly, we are unable to welcome prospective parents into school for a tour or Open Day due to the current pandemic. Instead, we are pleased to be able to invite you to one of our live Virtual Open Mornings. To sign up please click here: We hope that attending a Virtual Open Morning will give you a sense of what Durston House is like. Whilst we know it is never going to replace visiting in person, we hope it will help you get a sense of what we offer here and what a wonderful place it is.

Admission to Reception

Entry to Durston House at Reception is non-selective. There is no formal assessment of boys at this age.

To register for Reception, it is necessary to complete the Registration Form, which is downloadable below, returning it as soon as possible, with the Registration Fee, to the Registrar. Alternatively, the Registration Form can be obtained by contacting the Registrar directly.

Once the Registration Form has been received, parents are given the option to secure their son’s place at the school on payment of the acceptance fee of £1,800.

Subsequently, remaining places up to a maximum of 48 are offered, in order of registration. Prospective pupils with brothers already in the school are given priority. Parents are asked to confirm their acceptance of the place by paying the Acceptance Fee of £1,800. Parents who have accepted a place are notified about the ‘Welcome to Durston’ afternoon, to which they are asked to bring their sons. This takes place in the Summer Term before entry. New boys meet the Reception Teachers and Teaching Assistants, giving the staff an opportunity to make an informal assessment of them. Staff can ascertain something of the capabilities of each boy, allowing them to assign a balance of boys to the three Reception Form Classes.

Further information about the offer and acceptance of places can be found in the Admissions Policy, downloadable below.

Admission to Years 1-8

Admission to year groups other than Reception depends on availability of places and is based on an assessment and reference from the pupil’s current school. The purpose of both is to see if a prospective boy is academically and emotionally suited to the rigours of life at Durston House, able to cope with its academic demands and its expectations of social interaction.

Subject to the outcome of the assessment and satisfactory reference, a place is offered. Prospective pupils with brothers already in the school are given priority. To accept the place, prospective parents complete the Acceptance Form and pay the Acceptance Fee of £1,800. Further information about the offer and acceptance of places can be found in the Admissions Policy, downloadable below.

Acceptance Fees

The school retains the Acceptance Fee for the duration of the pupil’s education at Durston House. It is refunded once the pupil has left the school and the final account settled.
