Traditional values

Fundamentally, we aim to provide an outstanding education for our pupils - and we do this by creating a lively, fun, and interesting environment. We encourage the boys to aim high and to become involved in many aspects of school life. We believe that this combination naturally engenders an atmosphere of good conduct and sense of purpose. But we also take seriously our role in setting the foundation stones to create the future's good citizens.

We expect our pupils to develop principles of behaviour that show mutual respect and understanding - not just in school, but in life in general. Boys are encouraged to take good care of their own possessions and those of other people. School expects punctuality and hard work throughout the day.

Durston House Codes of conduct
The staff at Durston House do not shy away from appropriate discipline. We have created codes of conduct for good sportsmanship on the playing fields. We have a recognised procedure for dealing with unacceptable behaviour.

Values for the 21st century
Durston House was established in 1886 as a Christian school.  Today, we still see this as our foundation - indeed regular assemblies and many of our key festivals are celebrated in our local church - but we now boast a 21st century community of ethnic, cultural and religious diversity.  We hope all of our pupils will remember their time at Durston House as happy.  We hope all of them will carry with them values of respect, consideration and responsibility that make them worthy players in life's arena.
